Why Convert WebP to 24-Bit BMP Format?
Googleβs WebP standard applies predictive intra-frame spatial coding and arithmetic compression to deliver ultra-lightweight web assets. While WebP is supported across modern internet browsers, decoding its VP8 stream requires dedicated software libraries and memory overhead.
Microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, STM32), hardware TFT/OLED display shields, CNC engravers, and legacy Windows desktop tools frequently do not have the RAM or CPU capacity to run real-time WebP decoders. Converting WebP to uncompressed 24-bit Windows Bitmap (BMP) extracts the image into a raw linear pixel array with a 54-byte binary header. Hardware microcontrollers can read the pixel bytes sequentially from memory buffers and write directly to the screen framebuffer with zero decompression lag.
Format Specification Matrix: WebP vs. 24-Bit BMP
